From Marine Scientist to Sustainable Fashion Designer: My Journey to Launching Lottie Holiday
For years, I lived between two very different worlds—two passions that felt like they couldn’t possibly coexist. By day, I was a marine scientist, focused on sustainable fisheries, ocean conservation, and data-driven policy. By night, I transformed into something else entirely: a fashion designer, sketching ideas, exploring textiles, and building a dream brand from scratch.
At the time, I didn’t think these two identities could mix. Working in government, I often stayed behind the camera and out of the spotlight—fearful that embracing my creative side would be seen as unprofessional or inconsistent with the scientific world.
But over time, I came to realize something powerful:
Both parts of me were born from the same current—rooted in nature, wonder, and a free spirit that’s always been drawn to self-expression and environmental stewardship.
Designing Fashion with Purpose
That realization became the foundation of Lottie Holiday, a sustainable fashion brand that celebrates color, craft, and the unapologetic feminine spirit.
Inspired by the ocean’s fluidity and magic, each piece I design reflects a sense of whimsy, depth, and escapism—like a wearable vacation for the soul. My aesthetic is influenced by the rhythms of the sea and the bold, adventurous women who live vividly and dress accordingly.
But this isn’t just about beautiful clothes.
Lottie Holiday is grounded in ethical production, slow fashion, and cultural collaboration.
Each piece is made in partnership with Indigenous and Wayuu artisans in rural Colombia, blending traditional craftsmanship with bold, modern design. It’s a business model rooted in sustainability, human connection, and honoring heritage.
Lessons from a Year of Change
This past year has been full of transformation—personally, professionally, and creatively. Like many, I faced unpredictability, challenges, and moments of doubt. But my biggest lesson?
I can no longer afford to stay quiet out of fear.
Owning both sides of my identity—the scientist and the creator—has been liberating. It’s also what fuels my mission: to create fashion that helps women feel seen, confident, and powerful in their uniqueness.
Introducing Lottie Holiday
So, here it is: my soft launch and my hard leap.
Lottie Holiday is a brand for women who are unafraid to stand out—not for attention, but because it’s who they are.
Ethically made. Sustainably sourced. Boldly worn.
If you’re passionate about eco-conscious fashion, cultural storytelling, or just want to wear something that makes you feel unforgettable, welcome to my world.
This is just the beginning.
